Yesterday in Denver was a day of rain until about 5:15 PM and then….well you can see what I woke up seeing!

I must say it was really beautiful. So far we lost a huge limb off a Bradford Pear tree and several limbs off my huge Magnolia tree which I really hate. Hope my Leland Cyprus will get through this okay, as they serve as a buffer down the sides of our backyard.

It warmed up this afternoon to around 34 degrees and tonight it’s suppose to go down to around 19 degrees. Yes, the children in Lincoln County had no school today and school for tomorrow has already been called off.

You Just Never Know . . . . She Makes KILLER Pimento Cheese!

You just never know….. she makes killer pimento cheese!

Yesterday I had phone duty in the morning. About 11:00 some agents came in and said they were going to a Realtor luncheon and asked if I would like to tag along. At first I said no because I had already seen the house our firm had the listing for a year prior….but then I decided to go.

So I knew the house but I didn’t know who the new listing agent was until we pulled up. The listing

agent’s name was Suzanne Zick… yes Suzanne is an Active Rain member and her office is right down the street from ours but I have never met her….until yesterday!! Going into the house while we were in the hallway our Broker-in-Charge (Gail Huss; she is an Active Rain member too and the most awesome BIC) was introducing us to another Realtor and when Suzanne heard my name she came around the corner and said you’re the one on Active Rain that is #1 in our area.

We really skipped the tour because we already knew the house and went straight for the food and conversation. The food was great; especially the killer “homemade” pimento cheese

that Suzanne had made and she promised to get me the recipe….I’m waiting Suzanne! Hopefully, she will be willing to share it with every one here in the Rain too.

So the food was great and the conversation was great too. I do have to say I am pretty proud of the firm I am with because some of the conversation stemmed from sharing ideas and information about the house in hopes of helping Suzanne get the house sold. The prior listing agent (Mike Bost; an awesome caring professional) from our office even offered Suzanne the pictures he had took prior to the seller moving all the furniture out…which looked like a model. Not all realtors work together like this for the real benefit of their clients and former clients.

Needless-to-say the Realtor luncheon turned out to be much more than I expected. I got to meet the real Suzanne Zick (in person) and spent a good thirty minutes in her presences talking shop and just whatever. I got a Suzanne “hug”. I got to listen to two Realtors (from different firms) talking about a clients best interest and both hoping for the house to sell soon…just how much professional is that? I got to have some killer homemade pimento cheese all of this on a rainy/windy day in Denver, NC…you just never know!

P.S.: Suzanne please put me on your invite list for the next one!

Anyhow do to the current market conditions I thought it would be interesting to keep up with what real estate sales in January 2009 looked against January 2008 and January 2007. So here's some interesting stats of single family sales in Denver, NC (Lake Norman); going back to January 2007, January 2008, and January 2009. All figures were taken from Carolina Multiple Listing Services.

I hope that if you are thinking of buying and/or selling in the Denver area that you will find these figures helpful.

All it took was dinner at Bob & Diane’s house to know that this place is special. While the men were grilling the salmon Diane told me about her new founded past time ~ shopping consignment. After taking a tour of her large lovely home and pointing out what she has purchased and where one certain store kept topping up. Needless-to-say I went away thinking I have just got to see this place for myself.

The certain store is the Red Rooster; which specializes in new and used furniture and home accessories here in Denver, NC (Lake Norman). If you are local and have never been then you are missing out. This over 6,000 square foot building has a full array of furniture and accessories on display. Although, their inventory continuously changes they offer baby and children’s furniture as well. They have also added costume jewelry.

Since my first visit I have slated the Red Rooster as one of my “fun” places to go. My husband and I try to get by there once a week just to see what new things they have to offer.

So when you get a chance and want to experience something a little different please go by and see owners: John & Lynn Henkel and Jeff Haymore. Melissa Stillwell will be happy to assist you as well…..and if you think about it please tell them how you heard about them.

Punxsutawney Phil Predicts . . . .

Punxsutawney Phil has predicted . . . six more weeks of winter!

Yep, you heard it right Punxsutawney Phil resident of Punxsutawney, PA, has seen his shadow on this fine Groundhog Day! Punxsutawney is about 65 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. The ritual brought about 6,100 residents to a place called Gobbler’s Knob to witness the event.

It’s been reported that Punxsutawney Phil was still dressed in his Pittsburgh Steelers’ jersey from a Super Bowl party last night. This was to show his enthusiasm over the results last night.

Speaking of groundhogs I haven’t seen my own (I do have one in my backyard) but I am sure he is out and about eating and taking in a few rays since it’s a sunny day here in Denver, NC ~ Lake Norman; at least lets hope he does . . . he has six more weeks of winter!

Carolinas Medical Center-Lincoln Same-Day Surgery Facility Opens! Denver, NC

Wow my backyard continues to GROW . . . . Imagine that! Being a resident of Denver since 1985, I have seen a lot of changes and growing pains….I am full of Denver Trivia!

This week was the opening of our new Carolinas Medical Center – Lincoln Same-Day Surgery facility. This is a totally new medical office complex located on Forney Creek Parkway just off of Optimist Club Road which is near the next phase of the Highway 16 Bypass. Wow, just to think that when I moved here we only had one medical doctor facility and that was at the corner of Highway 16N and Unity Church Road; where the used boat/camper place is now…yep, that tiny building… can you imagine that?

At this new facility there is a shell for a second surgical center for expansion purposes and the facility will also be home too many physicians’ offices. The facilities 30 acre track of land will also facilitate an urgent-care facility expected to be added in the future.

Since there is only one surgery room and the facility will operate on a first shift timeframe only six surgeries will be done each day. There are four patient bays that will allow prep and return areas. Doing this will facilitate continuity of care between patients and nurses.

What a great addition to the place we call home!

If you have been reading my past blog posts you know that Denver is my home. You also know that I don’t think it gets much better than Denver or the Lake Norman area for a small town feel. So if you have been thinking of moving to the area ….. here’s another good reason why our area may be a good fit for you and your family and/or your business or future business.

Lincolnton-Lincoln County Regional Airport located in Iron Station on the out skirts of Denver and Lincolnton is about to get a new $1.2 million terminal. The 4,700 square feet, two-story building is scheduled for completion early next year. This will be nearly double the size of the current facility that was first opened more than two decades ago.

The new facility will have upgraded accommodations for pilots, comfortable waiting rooms for passengers, and a state-of-the-art computer system. Lincolnton officials are hoping the new airport will impress businesses considering Lincoln County as a new home and/or it should promote growth of industry around the perimeter of the airport in the years ahead.

If new funding permits the airport has future plans to add additional hanger space and a 500 foot runway extension. For more information about airport services, space, and facts please refer the Lincoln County Regional Airport website.
