Promises of 25 new jobs in Lincoln County, NC . . . SENNEBOGEN North America

Promises of 25 new jobs in Lincoln County, NC . . . SENNEBOGEN North America

SENNEBOGEN North America is coming to Lincoln County with promises of 25 new jobs to the area. Last July SENNEBOGEN North America, based in Charlotte, announced their plans to expand into Lincoln County. Investing $5.1 million in their 53,000 square foot parts distribution, training, and technical support center. The building is being built just off Highway 16 and Old Plank Road in the Lowesville area of East Lincoln County near Julius Blum Company. The facility is expected to be operational early this year (2009).

SENNEBOGEN North America employees who may be new to the area will not have to worry about housing, schools, or shopping. With some of the newer neighborhoods just around the corner or a few miles down the road there is plenty to choose from. The Lincoln County school system is one of the BEST around and there are private schools and a charter school as well not too far away. Shopping is not a problem either with the bustling new area of shopping at Highway 16 & Highway 73 and not to far away from Birkdale in Huntersville.

SENNEBOGEN North America couldn’t have picked a better location with it’s proximity to Charlotte, Lake Norman (Denver, Huntersville, Cornelius), Gastonia, and Hickory. For recreation you have the largest lake in North Carolina… Lake Norman at your back door. If golf is your thing you have several private and public courses to enjoy like Verdict Ridge, Cowans Ford, Westport, Birkdale, and River Run to name a few.

SENNEBOGEN is a 50 year old German company who entered the North American market in 2000; thus created SENNEBOGEN North America and has since become a market leader in the material handling industry. SENNEBOGEN offers a complete range of purpose-built machines to suit virtually any heavy lift or pick and carry application. They give credit to their continued success on the ability to recruit outstanding regional sales managers, which in turn grows their list of distributors, who support SENNEBOGEN sales and service across the Americas, ensuring the highest standard of professional machine support and parts availability.

Let me be one who welcomes SENNEBOGEN North America to our community. Here’s to wishing you continued growth and success for many, many years to come!!

What is Hangar Skate Park? It's in Denver, NC

What’s Hangar Skate Park?

Denver, North Carolina has something new / something different / something good and that something is Hangar Skate Park! What’s that? Well it is the brain-child of 36 year-old student pastor Chris Sigmon (aka Siggy) of the 7X Youth Group at Denver Baptist Church here in Denver. It’s a Skate Park that reaches out to the young people to help clear up misconceptions about the kids who ride boards. It was created to offer a positive place where kids can skate and belong.

Tell me more . . . the park opened on June 21, at the former R-Anell Homes property (that Denver Baptist Church purchased about a year ago) the concept is jumping ramps on skateboards or BMX bikes then breaking for Bible study. Currently the skate park is outside and the ramps and benches are covered by a roof. The 10,000 to 15,000 square foot indoor park is expected to be complete by winter.

How Cool is That?!?!?!

Watch the YouTube clip!

If you want your children to come out and experience Hangar Skate Park here’s some more important details.

Tuesday’s 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Saturday’s 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Cost - $3.00

Helmets are required and available for rental.
Kids 11 and under are required to wear full pads.
Average age is 14, but participants have ranged from 8 to 18 years old

Parents are required to sign a liability waiver.

Operation Noah's Ark Still Needs Help ~ Denver, NC

Update: I made a visit to the shelter today and I have some GOOD news! The good news is that all the cats will be placed in foster care homes by tomorrow. All Huskys' have been placed in approved foster care homes today. The shelter has more than enough food, litter, and bedding. They are hoping that the rest of the dogs will be placed in approved foster care homes by next week, if possible. They are still in need for volunteers to help out.

If you have an hour or two to spare please call Sharon at 703-851-3520.
Or you can always call me and I will relay the message.

Even after the animals are placed in foster care volunteers will be needed

to clean the facility.

The following is their current wish list:

Large Dog Crates
Medium Dog Crates
55 Gallon Trash Bags
33 Gallon Trash Bags
Kongs Various Sizes
Dog Toys - All Sizes
Laundry Detergent
Name Tags
Ear Cleaner

Operation ‘Noah’s Ark’ Still Needs Help

On August 26th, 393 animals ~ making up 17 different species, were rescued from a house here in Denver. This rescue took over ten hours, during which we were getting heavy bands of rain from the former hurricane Faye. I passed this place twice that day, while this rescue was taking place... what a bitter sweet sight. Just how does someone collect that many animals? How can anyone afford to feed that many?

You can only image the HUGE task of caring for all these animals; bathing, assessing, medicating, cleaning, walking, and feeding it all takes time, volunteers, and donations.

Our local Denver Baptist Church has recently purchased a 6 +/- acre track of land that included various buildings (the former R-Anell Company’s general office and manufacturing plant, which has moved to another part of the county) and it is here where the animals are being sheltered. As of last Tuesday it was reported that only a few have passed away, a few had to be taken to a vet hospital, and none have had to be “put to sleep” but this would be an option if it was deemed they were suffering.

Compact Animal Mobile Equipment Trailers (CAMETs) are being used at the Church shelter. CAMETs are stocked with all the necessities to set up an animal shelter; this is the first time for these to be used in North Carolina. All animals have been checked out by Dr. Kelly Farris, of the North Carolina State School of Veterinary School. Area vets are on the scene and are following the directions of Dr. Farris. Also, help teams have flown in from as far away as Colorado and Washington State to help in the efforts.

Since this is an ongoing criminal investigation it was first thought that authorities could not offer adoptions of these animals, due to legal issues. Now it sounds like they may have found a loop hole and will be able to start finding new homes for them soon.

Want to Help?

Volunteers
Volunteers are needed who have training in animal care. But walk-ins are accepted too. Morning and evening shirts are available. Sign up is at the temporary shelter which is the former R-Anell location at 3549 North Highway 16, Denver, NC; which is across the street from Denver Baptist Church and next to Rock Springs Elementary School (almost in downtown Denver). They have a working calendar to schedule volunteers for feeding, cleaning cages, and washing animals. They will also introduce the animals to leads so that they will be able to be taken out to exercise.

Needs
Clean towels and newspapers are needed. These can be dropped off at Denver Fire Department at 3956 North Highway 16, Denver, North Carolina. So far food has been donated by several PetSmart stores in our area. Due to the humid weather, with volunteers in and out of heat, they are asking for Gatorade and water as well.

Contributions
Monetary donations are desperately needed. Anyone can make a donation at any First Federal Savings Bank in Lincoln County; North Carolina.

My hat goes off to all the volunteers and contributors.

Please join me as I plan to go by this week and see what I can do to help and you can help too!

My Backyard is Growing Again ~ Chesterbrook Academy is OPEN!

We are growing again here in Denver, NC at Lake Norman. Yes, I understand that you may have a Chesterbrook Academy in your backyard but this is the first for our backyard! In 1985, when I moved to the area there was only one daycare (that was open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM for infants to pre-k) for children in Denver and that was Our Gang Day Care. If you were a full-time working mother working eight hours a day and you didn't get a spot at Our Gang, you would have had to creatively find a place for your child or children. Mind you that this was a time before employers offered daycare for their employees; i.e: Bank of America and Wachovia. But as the years have pasted Ms. Ems was added, then Mini Academy Day Care, and others.

Chesterbrook offers care for infant to Pre-K2. They are currently accepting enrollment for the 2008/2009 school year. Open House is August 9th from 10:00 Am to 1:00 PM. For more information please check their website out Denver's Chesterbrook Academy.

Cowans Ford in Denver, NC (Lake Norman)

Cowans Ford
Cowans Ford is magnificent. This upscale community, in the Lake Norman area, is located off of Club Road in Denver, NC, in Lincoln County; but the address is Stanley, NC. This luxury waterfront and golf community on Lake Norman was originally just a private country club for some of the elite Duke Power Company employees.

Approximately, twenty years ago the country club went through a huge transformation, whereby a new pool and clubhouse was erected across the street to free up the land on the lake to be developed for homes. At the same time other land owned by, Cowans Ford, was being sold off as golf course lots with first priority given to the current members. This began on the street known as St. Andrews. Today there are still a few lots available but most are owned by private individuals who have purchased them for investment or personal use. Cowans Ford offers waterfront and water view, golf course and golf view, county water and sewer, and curb and gutter, and street lights. Home plans are subject to architectural review.

This beautiful country club setting offers a lot. Besides the 18-hole championship golf course, residents can enjoy an Olympic-size swimming pool, and four lighted tennis courts. Each summer Cowans Ford sponsors a swim team and hosts swim meets at its pool. Prior to the addition to SailView and then Verdict Ridge, Cowans Ford had the only swim team in Denver. Today they also offer water aerobics, tennis clinics, swimming lessons, and golf lessons to members and non-members alike.

The newly renovated clubhouse is one of the latest major modifications that have taken place at Cowans Ford. It is furnished with a widescreen TV, lounge and bar, kitchen, locker rooms, and a pro shop. It's a place where neighbors can gather and enjoy social activities. There are usually scheduled monthly events for members. Club memberships are currently available. If you would like membership information please contact me. Being a resident does not require you to be a member of the club.

YES! THERE IS A DENVER, NC 28037, SINCE 1877

YES! THERE IS A DENVER, NC 28037, SINCE 1877

Prior to getting back into real estate I was a business owner here in Denver, North Carolina. During that time while working with various vendors it was almost daily that I would hear, "There's a Denver, NC? I didn't know that." I would even hear this from other people throughout our state. So this blog is for the ones that never heard of Denver, NC and for people that would like to know more about Denver, NC, so sit back with your cappuccino and enjoy!

The easiest way to remember Denver's location is that it is approximately 20-25 miles northwest of Charlotte; the queen city of North Carolina. Denver is also one of the towns that share the area called Lake Norman; Lake Norman is on the Catawba River and it is the largest lake in North Carolina. Denver is located in Lincoln County which is sandwich between Gaston and Catawba Counties with Mecklenburg County to the east. For those that are interested in geography Denver is at latitude 35°31'52" north and longitude 81°01'47" west. The elevation is 902 feet above sea level.

The Past:
The Denver area was settled in 1770 and was formerly known as "Dry Pond," which derived its name from a small pond which once stood at what is now the corner of Highway 16 and Campground Road, it is the site of the local Bank of America branch. During the summer the pond would dry up due to the heat. In 1873, D. Matt Thompson, headmaster of the local Rock Springs Academy (now known as Rock Springs Elementary School), led the effort to have Dry Pond renamed for the rapidly growing Colorado capital, in an attempt to attract a railroad, because rail service held the promise of opportunity, prosperity, and wealth. Efforts to get the railroad failed but in 1877, the town of Denver was officially incorporated in the state of North Carolina.

The Present:
The continuous growth of Charlotte has fueled tremendous development of the areas surrounding Lake Norman including the Denver area. The area has become a very popular recreation spot, attracting thousands of visitors every year for fishing, swimming, and boating. The Denver area has seen tremendous growth in the past 10 to 15 years. People see the charm of the other side of the lake in particular, Denver. New homes and businesses are suddenly popping up throughout the area.

In recent years we have seen a lot of people relocating here from California, New York, and Ohio. We are also seeing more retired people deciding to relocate here too; sighting that we have a change of seasons. We are reaping the benefits of these transplants because they are the ones that are bring their businesses with them and/or opening up new ones, due to them longing for what they miss.

Along with this we are so blessed to have a great school system. The Denver schools rank some of the highest test scores in the county. It's nothing for principles to receive daily calls from teachers wanting a chance to teach at one of the schools in the system.

What about real estate? Well the area offers a wide variety. The average is around $200,000. the range is $100,000's to several millions (luxury real estate, especially around the lake).

The Future:
Our area has been pretty resilient when considering many other places over the United States. When most markets were bottoming out we continued our continuous growth. For the past year we have seen some changes, what we call market adjustments. Yes, we are currently in a "buyer's market" but from what I have been told don't bank on this to continue. Essentially, we were the last to experience the downturn but we are expected to be one of the first to recover. There's no better time to invest in real estate....

DENVER is CLOSE TO SEEING ~ SALLY'S YMCA ~ (LAKE NORMAN, NC)

Denver is getting a YMCA ~ Sally's Y

Denver is in the process of getting a YMCA! It is something that I have heard since they finished the Lincolnton YMCA several years ago; even with the rapid growth in the Denver area there wasn't an urgency until David and Jo Clark got involved.

On April 4, 2004, their only daughter Sally McKenzie Clark and her cousin Anna Grace Jordan were tragically killed in a car accident by a drunk driver. Both girls were only 19 at the time, with a lifetime of plans and dreams ahead of them.

After Sally's death, her family and friends decided to create a lasting memorial in her honor. They wanted to not only remember her life, but they also wanted to celebrate what she loved. With Sally's love of God and passion for sports and the outdoors Sally's parents came up with the idea to build a YMCA in her name. Included will be a Chapel in Anna Grace Jordan's name. Jo Clark and other members of Grace's family have contributed the money for the memorial.

With this David and Jo Clark have donated about 50 acres off of Optimist Club Road at the new four-lane Highway 16; said to be worth around $1,000,000 for the proposed site. Along with this they are donating their share of the wrongful-death lawsuit settlement estimated at $283,000. YMCA supporters have already raised close to $6 million of the $7 million they need to raise before construction on the building can begin.

The next scheduled fundraiser for Sally's Y. Will be a dinner theater; the event is the play "Chicago" which will be presented by Grant Ewing and the Verdict Ridge Backyard Players.

The Dates: September 19 - 20, 2008
Time: 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Location: Verdict Ridge, Denver, NC
Event Cost: TBD
Contact Info: (704) 489-6881
